Tony Clough is the Clinical Director of Sharrow Dental Care, Advent and Springfield Dental Care; under his guidance the group has grown and developed into the largest and most influential oral health service provider in Essex, operating across three sites in Chelmsford.

Dr Clough served for 24 years as a Postgraduate dental tutor, while combining this role with teaching at the Royal London Hospital dental school, the University of Essex and coordinating the Diploma in Sports Dentistry course at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute in London. He also continues as the elected representative of the 1500 dentists in Essex, having fulfilled the role for 16 years.

Tony is joined within the practice by his two sons, Frank and Tom, his nephew, Anthony Barrett, and daughter-in-law, Pip Clough.

Through his involvement in sports dentistry, Dr Clough currently works with the British Boxing team, providing advice, protective equipment and dental care as required. He has acted as Dental Advisor on behalf of the International Olympic Committee Medical Commission in every Olympic games since Beijing 2008.

In recognition of his expertise, Dr Clough has hosted Dental Workshops for Sports Physicians during the last two “IOC Forums on Health and Injury in Sport”. He is a contributing author to both the FIFA and IOC Sport Medicine Diploma programs, and recently co-authored a major review of Dental Injuries in Sport for the Medical Clinics of North America. He continues to lecture widely including the Middle East AEEDEC (Dubai) Conference and recently for the Advanced Sports Physician FIMS / FIFA course in Portugal in September 2017.

Clinically, Tony is responsible for undertaking much of the complicated surgery within the Practice including implant surgery and bone grafting procedures.

His main interests are:

  • Prosthetic reconstruction using dental implants;
  • Trauma surgery – immediate and long-term management;
  • Joint cases combining orthodontic and restorative aspects;
  • General aesthetic dental work to give his patients their beautiful smiles back!

Tony has a particular interest in the field of dental traumatology and through his affiliation with sports teams and athletes, he has garnered a wealth of experience over the years in managing dental trauma in the immediate aftermath, through to rehabilitation and long-term follow-up.

DR Thomas Clough BDS(LOND) MJDF RCS ENG PGCERT DENTED BEDS

Tom is the practice principal at both Springfield Dental Practice and also Advent Dental Practice. He is responsible for the new redevelopment of Springfield, expanding the site has enabled us to add 3 new NHS dentists to our team in turn helping us see more NHS patients.

Tom has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry and can talk you through a wide range of dental treatments to improve aesthetics including tooth whitening or crowns and veneers.

Tom has 13 years experience placing implants and can offer solutions for single missing teeth all the way to full mouth rehabilitation.

Tom is known for his good humour in an environment that many patients perceive as stressful, helping to re-assure nervous patients with a cheesy grin.

Gary Howell BDS Hons (LOND)

GDC Number: 177831 

Gary qualified with honours in 2009 from Kings College London and then subsequently completed postgraduate exams in the Membership of Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of surgeons.

He is a clinical educator for the ongoing training of student hygienists from the University of Essex.

He has spent 10 years working in practice in Essex and has excellent experience in general family dentistry. His relaxed manner puts patients at ease and has a focus for patient centered clinical care.

Gary can provide anti-wrinkle injections and has a current keen interest in cosmetic composite bonding.

Outside of dentistry he enjoys football, tennis and skiing but spare time is limited with the recent arrival of twin daughters.

Dr Jaya Bhargava BDS

Jaya qualified from University of Plymouth and completed vocational training in Benfleet, Essex.  She has a very warm and friendly approach to dentistry, and has a flare for treating children and adults who feel nervous coming to the dentist as her gentle nature helps put patients at ease. She is happy to discuss your treatment at length, to make you feel as comfortable and informed as possible. 

Jaya enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, and is currently undertaking postgraduate education with a view to become a specialist in Endodontics (root canal treatment). She also enjoys oral surgery and restorative dentistry, as well as minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as tooth whitening and edge bonding. Jaya plans to continue undertaking further postgraduate training to broaden her treatment scope. 

Jaya also offers conscious sedation for adult patients with dental anxiety who are looking for a more calm and comfortable dental experience. She completed her sedation training with SAAD and is able to provide sedation for a range of dental treatments including general and cosmetic dentistry.

Dr Kai Gohil BDS (KING’S)

Kai recently graduated from Kings College London, completed his vocational training in Essex, before spending a year in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at a hospital in Nottingham looking after ward patients and treating traumas in a busy A&E. 

As a local lad born and bred in Chelmsford, he now wants to give back to the community that has served him for many years by providing a high level of care and enthusiasm from the moment you walk through the door! With a friendly approach, Kai takes the time to make his patients feel comfortable, explore their concerns and come up with individual treatment plans, as well as equipping them with the confidence to make their dental treatments last through advice and education. 

Outside of the surgery, Kai spends time at the gym and enjoys a range of sports including football, golf and skiing. He also enjoys travelling and experimenting in the kitchen, creating new dishes for his family and friends.

Emily Reaich BDS PG Cert Aes

Emily graduated from Cardiff University with a Bachelor degree in Dental Surgery with a distinction in her final year examinations.

Emily is driven to help people with dental anxiety, and can provide dental treatment using a combination of holistic and medication-based techniques.

Emily is a qualified seditionist so when Intravenous sedation is needed this enables her patients to be as comfortable as possible.

Emily has also completed her PG Cert in Aesthetic Restorative dentistry with Tipton Academy, and has trained with Harley Street facial aesthetics academy, Interface Aesthetics. She can guide through to a range of cosmetic goals to naturally enhance your features with help from whitening, clear aligners, veneers and ICON for white enamel spotting.

Emily is currently completing the Campbell Academy Implant course which includes the TI Foundation Level in Implant Dentistry.

Proudly Welsh, Emily grew up in the mountains of North Wales and loves all things animals, adventure and outdoors.

Dr Armon Etemadi BDS (Hons) Dip Imp Dent

Armon graduated from Cardiff University with an honors degree and the John Miller prize in paediatric dentistry. After which he completed his vocational training in London, culminating in being awarded first prize in the end of year case presentation.

He enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has a keen interest in implant and restorative dentistry. He has completed a Diploma in Dental Implantology, allowing him to replace missing teeth and restore patients’ confidence. Further training at the renowned Eastman Institute has also equipped him with the skills to enhance smiles with a combination of tooth whitening, aligning, composite bonding, veneers and crowns.

Armon has a relaxed chairside manner, with confidence in evidence-based and protocol-driven dentistry.

When he’s not in the clinic, Armon enjoys playing sports and spending quality time with friends, family and dogs.

DR IAN PATERSON BDS HONS(LOND) MJDF PGERT (ORTHO)

Ian has been providing dental care in Essex since graduating in 2008. Having developed an interest in Orthodontics he was awarded the post graduate certificate from Warwick University in 2014. He has gone on to train in Invisalign, Inman aligners and lingual braces as well as more traditional Orthodontics.

Ian is currently a platinum level Invisalign provider and is an associate member of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry.

Ian has a passion for providing minimally invasive, beautiful dentistry and Orthodontics in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

MAX ACORN

Max graduated from the University of Sheffield with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-focused dental care. Following graduation, he completed his vocational training in Essex, where he further developed his clinical skills and confidence across a broad range of treatments.

Max enjoys providing a wide variety of dental procedures, with a particular interest in restorative dentistry. He takes great pride in helping patients rebuild their smiles, whether through routine restorative work or more complex treatment planning. His approach is centred on careful listening, clear communication, and ensuring patients feel comfortable and fully informed throughout their treatment journey.

Outside of dentistry, Max enjoys both playing and watching sports, listening to music, and spending quality time with friends and family. He believes maintaining a healthy work–life balance allows him to bring energy, focus, and positivity into the practice each day.

Dental Hygienists

Amanda Harbrow-Harris RDH

Amanda Harbrow-Harris is an award-winning Dental Hygienist, Lecturer in Oral Health Sciences at the University of Essex and Clinical Educator for NSK.

After qualifying with Distinction from the University of Essex in 2014, Amanda has built a career spanning clinical practice, education and professional leadership. In September, she celebrates 10 years at Springfield Dental Care, where she continues to provide patient-centred periodontal and preventive care with a particular interest in supporting anxious patients.

Amanda was honoured to be named National Dental Hygienist of the Year in both 2019 and 2024. She is also Chair of the Eastern Region of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT), where she is passionate about supporting colleagues and promoting continuing professional development.

As a Clinical Educator for NSK, Amanda lectures nationally and delivers hands-on training on ultrasonic instrumentation, powder polishing and contemporary periodontal care. She has published articles in leading dental journals and enjoys sharing practical, evidence-based techniques that delegates can immediately implement in practice.

Committed to lifelong learning, Amanda is about to begin a Master’s in Academic and Clinical Education (MACE), further strengthening her expertise in teaching, clinical practice and educational leadership.

Most recently, Amanda volunteered in Africa, providing dental care and oral health education to underserved communities—an experience that reinforced her passion for improving oral health both locally and globally.

Outside dentistry, Amanda enjoys open water swimming, has completed a half marathon and believes that resilience, continuous learning and stepping outside your comfort zone are key to both personal and professional success.

Abby Parkinson DIP DH(LOND) 2010 DIP DT(LOND) 2010

Abby has been a member of the Sharrow Dental team for 19 years.
She has fulfilled numerous roles including dental nurse and practice manager culminating in qualifying as a dental hygienist/therapist from the Royal London Hospital in 2010.
Abby prides herself on building good relationships with her patients and treating them in a relaxed and comfortable manner.

In her spare time Abby loves taking long walks with her dog, eating out and socialising with friends and family.

Lottie Underwood

Lottie qualified with a distinction as a Dental Hygienist, from the University of Essex in 2025. After completing a student placement at Sharrow in 2022, she was delighted to return to the Sharrow Dental Group as a member of the team. Lottie takes pride in providing excellent patient care and ensuring her treatments reflect the latest evidence-based research and techniques. She is particularly skilled at supporting and treating patients with dental anxiety and helping them feel comfortable during their visits.

Rachel Osborne

Rachael qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Guy’s Dental Hospital in 1994 and has over 30 years of experience in providing exceptional preventative dental care.

Following qualification, Rachael worked as a Staff Hygienist at both Guy’s Hospital and the Bank of England Dental practice, where she developed strong clinical skills and gained extensive experience treating a wide variety of patients.

After starting a family, Rachael joined a busy dental practice in Sidcup, where she remained for over 20 years. During this time, she built lasting relationships with her patients and became known for her gentle, thorough approach and commitment to helping people achieve and maintain excellent oral health.

Rachael combines excellent clinical skills with a warm friendly manner ensuring every patient feels comfortable, listened to and at ease throughout their appointment. She is passionate about educating and motivating patients to improve their oral hygiene and believes that prevention is the key to a healthy smile. Her caring and approachable nature allows her to build trust with patients of all ages, including those who may feel anxious about dental treatment.

Rachael is delighted to be part of the team and looks forward to welcoming both new and existing patients.

Orthodontic Therapists

Simona Giurca

Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, 2025.

Simona joined the practice as a dental nurse in 2019. She has trained with Tempdent and obtained a NEBDN qualification for dental nursing. Simona also has a BDA Radiography qualification. With a great passion for orthodontics, and to progress with her career, in 2024 she went on to study at Kings College London to study Orthodontic Therapy and was proud to graduate in 2025. Simona developed a great insight into patient care and oral hygiene.

Simona enjoys spending time with family and friends, photography and travelling.

Charlene Nelson

Ceri Bird

Ceri qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist in 2015 through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, having completed her training at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Following qualification, Ceri combined her clinical career with education, sharing her knowledge and experience by lecturing and supporting trainee Orthodontic Therapists at the university alongside working full-time in clinic.

In April 2020, Ceri published Textbook for Orthodontic Therapists, which has since become a valuable resource for student Orthodontic Therapists and is used by universities across the UK as part of their training. Following its success, the textbook was also published in China, where it is used as a revision resource for students.

Ceri is passionate about patient care and takes great pride in helping her patients achieve the confident smiles they deserve. She particularly enjoys building relationships with her patients and being part of their journey towards a smile they can feel proud of.

Outside of work, Ceri enjoys travelling and exploring different countries, as well as spending quality time with her family and friends.
